Friaco’s Mexican Restaurant & Tequila: a culinary adventure of authentic Mexican cuisine that amazes hundreds, located in Shorewood.
Friaco’s was a relaxed atmosphere with very few customers but attentive waiters and waitresses anxious to meet customers’ needs.
In the background, traditional Mexican music played throughoutthe restaurant. Though it was not crowded, the food did not dismay my expectations at all.
The server was quick to seat me and gave me plenty of time to look over the menu as I decided what to order. They offer a diverse variety of Mexican fare such as tacos, enchiladas, soups, salads, and even seafood.
I decided to order the queso dip as an appetizer, followed by the quesabirria tacos that included three shredded beef tacos with beans, rice, cilantro, onions, and the flavorful birria broth.
The quesabirria tacos were loaded with eccentric, spiced shredded beef, topped with cilantro and onions, as I dipped the tacos in the rich, savory broth with hints of chili peppers to add a little kick. The birria broth added such an astounding complementary flavor that paired lovely with the tacos.
I also ordered the chicken mole enchilada dinner, which included a huge chicken enchilada, topped with mole sauce and beans and rice on the side. The chicken enchilada mole is a corn tortilla filled with spiced, shredded chicken wrapped inside and topped with the classic mole sauce. Mole sauce is a complex sauce that includes chocolate, dried chiles, nuts, seeds, and many more ingredients that pair perfectly with the enchilada.
The queso dip was a nice spicy, creamy cheese sauce with nice crunchy fresh tortilla chips. The waitress would bring us a fresh batch each time we finished them.
The server was very sweet and got me as many refills as I needed for my drinks, along with consistently checking up on me to make sure the food was to my liking. The pricing however may be out of range for some students, as the total came out to be around $60, but that is because I ordered quite a bit of food. It is an overall great experience and place to eat for anyone looking for the next restaurant to try. I rate Friaco’s a 5/5 stars.
