Fifteen miles away lies a festive and vibrant pumpkin patch with a heap of roller coasters and plenty of diverse foods that suit any craving; located in Homer Glen.
Bengtson’s Pumpkin Farm and Fall Fest exceeded my expectations with the number of activities available for all ages along with the selection of food they had to offer. They had numerous food trucks such as an ice cream truck with extravagant flavors to choose from, an Auntie Anne’s, boba, and so much more. They open from as early as 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. the latest.
For my food choice, I decided to try the beef & sausage combo and the cheese curds from the J&M Beef Wagon, followed by a strawberry fruit refresher. The beef and sausage combo was mediocre. I personally didn’t like the sausage because the flavour profile wasn’t there. There wasn’t enough seasoning on the sausage or the beef. The beef was juicy though, and the cheese on top went along nicely with the italian bread of the sandwich, but I think it tastes like any other beef sandwich I can get anywhere, and there’s nothing special about it for the price.
The cheese curds on the other hand were splendid. They were crispy and had an amazing cheese pull. With the sandwich and cheese curds, the total came out to be roughly around $21. The strawberry fruit refresher was also just as excellent. It had fresh cut strawberries and a non-artificial taste, unlike a lot of refreshers I’ve had. If someone is looking for a good place to have dinner, I don’t think this is the place to go, but the snacks are great.
Though the food was average, the attractions did not disappoint. They had a huge variety of thrilling attractions such as, the egg drop, the barnstormer wave swinger, the barnyard dance (which is a mini roller coaster), and many mini kiddie rides for younger children. My favorite ride was the barnyard dance; it spins the seat around while changing from a slow to fast pace in a circle. It made me scream the most out of excitement compared to other rides there.
Bengston’s also had a huge corn pit and petting zoo as well. There was a wide variety of animals like goats, cows, llamas, and they offered food to feed the animals ranging from $0.25 to $20. But there’s more: They had live music and even pig racing every hour.
Overall, I would say Bengston’s Farm and Fall Fest is an exceptional place to go if family and friends are looking for a thrilling evening with delightful music and rides galore. I would rate this place a solid 4 out of 5 stars for the average food but extravagant entertainment.
