Drake continues to take over charts with new album certified lover boy

Aaliyah Solano, Editor-in-Chief

Drake’s album “Certified Lover Boy” is currently the most streamed album on Apple Music in under 24 hours, and the album is in its second week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Chart, with all 21 tracks charting in the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart.

The first track of the album I didn’t personally enjoy the first time I heard it, but with all Drake songs it grows on you. When fans and Tiktokers used the song as an audio, I was forced to enjoy the song. Whether I like it or not, the phrase “I love you, I love you, I love you” has become ingrained in my mind.

This isn’t the only music being pushed down our throats by TikTok and Drake fans. The song “Way 2 Sexy,” featuring Future and Young Thug, is the most talked about and frequently played song off the album. Every time the song is played, it makes me want to dance. Drake has social media buzzing with his humorous lyrics and even funnier music video. This song, in my opinion, is more of a parody than a true song. The song is still fantastic, but I can’t take it as seriously as Drake’s other songs.

My personal favorite song is “Get Along Better” featuring Ty Dolla Sign. Drake sounds exceptionally good in this song. I’m not sure if it’s the sluggish tempo or Drake’s singing style that makes me appreciate the song the most. Ty Dolla Sign is included since his contribution to the record is less notable than the others. I believe this song is the greatest Drake has sounded on the album, though not necessarily lyrically, as he is better while rapping. The song’s message, on the other hand, exemplifies toxic masculinity at its finest. Drake never hides his destructive side, singing, “I get along better with your buddies,” implying that he will now socialize with his ex-friends.

Drake’s Certified Lover Boy album is a good one with a few standout tracks, but it’s not his best. I’d give the album a four out of five star rating because I was expecting a more “Scorpion” Drake, but instead we got a sad, heartbroken Drake. I’ll keep watching the “Way 2 Sexy” music video as the album continues to climb the charts.
