Colored lights spread joyful seasonal spirit

Colored+lights+spread+joyful+seasonal+spirit

Decorating is always a fun and highly anticipated part of the holiday season for many people, including my family. Every year when we pull out the big boxes of Christmas decorations from storage, I don’t hesitate to untangle my strand of colored lights for my tree. Not only are they festive, they add color and are a lot more fun.
The holiday season is supposed to be a bright, joyful time. A common activity for families, friends, and couples this time of year is to drive or walk around and look at all the Christmas lights. Nobody wants to stare at a bunch of white, bland, boring lights when what they really want to see are lights that capture the happy emotions of the holidays.
Decorating with colored lights could even impact a person’s mental health. Between the cold season and holiday stress, I know I am not the only person who needs a festive pick-me-up. According to Mental Health America, “Through exposure to bright, cheery colors during dark winter months, a person may feel more warmth and comfort in their home.”
A lot of the landscape this time of year is dead. There are no leaves, flowers, or color like there are in the summer seasons. If anything, there is snow, which is, of course, white. Using white lights this time of year just adds to the colorless environment. Christmas Central said that colored lights “bring vivacious color to a landscape that, in many parts of the country, is drab and dreary.”
Colorful lights are the perfect way to capture the jolly holiday spirit when decorating homes, stores, trees, and more. When pulling out the decorations, or walking through the store aisles, think about the benefits of colored lights before choosing an unexciting strand of white lights nobody is gonna look at.
