The boys’ tennis team has had
a successful season so far, scor-
ing wins against Plainfield East,
Wheaton North, and Plainfield
North.
“So far, it’s been good when
you compare what this team
did in the Wheaton North
Quad this year as opposed to
last year. We tied two teams
3 – 3, where last year we got
smoked by them. That shows
that they’re improving and
we’re gonna need that for our
conference,” Head Coach John
Bayer said.
Bayer believes that the team
has serious potential in the
conference match.
“I’ve always said we’re gonna
try to get into the top three in
the conference, top four in the
conference, and I think these
guys can do that. But again,
you’re talking about Oswego,
Oswego East, Plainfield North,
we already beat Plainfield East.
You know, anything can hap-
pen in the tournament, but you
have to be consistent,” Bayer
said. “I think that they’ll bring
it because for these seniors,

they realize this is it. I mean,
they gotta be able to go out feel-
ing like they did something. If
you get in the top three in our
conference, that says something
pretty good.”
In preparation for future
matches and conference, the
team has been hard at work in
practice. Brady Husak, junior,
believes that practice makes the
difference at meets.
“I think we cover a lot of valu-
able subjects that we struggle
in, so practicing that and get-
ting better at that leads to a
lot of improvement, which we
have definitely seen pay off. I
definitely improved through
practices and the drills that we
have done in our time,” Husak
said.
The conference match is one
of the most anticipated match-
es in the season. Linus Yuan,
senior, has high hopes for the
conference match.
“I feel like I have a shot at first
or between first and third place
for the second singles position
for conference, and then hope-
fully I’ll do well in the sectional
so I can make it to state this
year,” Yuan said.
While some players have great
aspirations, Matt Bolek, senior,
is looking forward to compet-
ing through the season.
“I’m really just looking for-
ward to playing some challeng-
ing teams and get out of my
comfort zone, just have a good
time,” Bolek said.
All this success doesn’t come
easy; they had to work hard.
Andrew Imig, senior, has faced
some more challenging oppo-
nents this season.
“I’m playing first doubles
this year, which is a very chal-
lenging spot. Everyone is very
tough at that level, so it’s a pret-
ty good challenge right there,”
Imig said.
The team will compete in the
conference match on Wednes-
day, May 13 and Thursday, May
14 with singles and doubles be-
ing hosted separately at Oswego
and Oswego East. Junior Var-
sity will have their conference
tournament on Saturday, May 9
with singles and doubles being
at Plainfield North and Plain-
field East.
