We like to refer to the Met Gala as “fashion’s biggest night out” and the event definitely lived up to it’s name. The Met Gala this year was one for the books. The gala did receive a lot of hate for the theme “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” and some of the people in attendance, but it was nice seeing all the celebrities dress up again and hear their interviews. To me it was like a breath of fresh air, kind of like a flashback of life before covid.
The best part was seeing all of the the babies meet Met for the first time. From Megan thee Stallion, who was wearing a beautiful coach dress, to Billie Eilsh in a Oscar de la Renta gown, and Lil Nas X with his big three changes. They all did a fabulous job for their first time.
But don’t get me wrong, the vets slayed too. Rihanna and ASAP Rocky’s first Met Gala as a couple was definitely a show stopper. But Jennifer Lopez and her brown American cowgirl outfit was the closest runner-up of the night.
There were so many great moments and looks it’s hard to choose one, but if I had to pick one it would be when I saw Lil Baby and Megan standing next to each other. He looked confused as usual, and it was so funny to me. I love seeing black excellence and people having fun.
The bottom line is people were so quick to tear down something we didn’t even almost have. It’s a miracle we even had it during a pandemic. Even if it wasn’t as great as it could have been or wasn’t what we wanted, We shouldn’t tear down people’s hard work and rain on the fun. The Met gala this year was a symbol of hope.
