The first-ever winter pep assembly will be held today during eighth period, marking the introduction of a new school tradition centered on winter activities and school spirit.
“The idea for the winter pep rally came from our Super Fan seniors, who have been talking about different ways to get students involved and proud to be a Wildcat,” Jennifer Giorgetti, counselor, said.
The Super Fans have worked alongside administrators to develop the assembly, which is intended to recognize winter student successes to maintaining school spirit beyond the fall season.
“We are now aiming to do the same during the winter season,” Patrick Hanley, athletic director, said.
Jeffery Purdom, social studies teacher, will serve as the master of ceremonies for the winter pep assembly, a role he has held for other school wide events.
“I always enjoy being the MC because it gives me a chance to connect with students and help bring energy to school events,” Purdom said.
The eighth period assembly will include games and spirit activities involving both staff and students, as well as recognition of winter athletes and student achievements in academics and extracurricular activities.
“I hope that students gain a stronger sense of school pride, especially in a time of winter where it may seem like there isn’t much extra going on around the school,” Sam Bathan, superfan leader and senior, said. “I’m also excited that all of the athletes, students, and staff members who are being acknowledged will get the recognition they deserve.”
Students are excited and can not wait to see what this new event will bring, as well as how it will impact the coming years.
“I’m excited because I think it’s going to bring school spirit and it is going to be fun because there isn’t a lot going on right now,” Grethcen Ukleja, senior, said, “It can potentially bring the school together.”
Organizers said the assembly is intended to create a positive and inclusive environment while encouraging students to participate and show school pride.
“The goal of the pep rally is for students to have fun while celebrating those involved in winter activities, “ Giorgetti said.
