Volleyball works to improve record

The volleyball team, with their new head coach, are working hard to improve their record from last year.
“Last year, the team was 8-20 overall (3-11 in conference) so one of our main goals were to surpass both win totals,” coach Christian Staple said.
“The team mindset is team first, then individual. Were all working towards those team accolades,” Zach Boyda, senior, said.
The coach works hard creating phrases and finding quotes in order to motivate the players for every practice and game.
“After we do the quote, I talk with the guys about strategy and things we need to do to succeed. This year, one of the cornerstones of the program is what I called the 5 E’s. The E’s stand for effort + energy+ enthusiasm = (equals) execution,” Staple said.
“The most memorable thing that volleyball teaches is the 5 E’s. That phrase helps me focus during practice and our games,” Finnegan McCue, junior, said.
The team works hard in order to improve themselves, for each game.
“This team continues to impress me day in and day out with their commitment to work hard and their commitment to each other,” Staple said.
“We work hard and play our heart out every time we touch the floor,” said Kameron Williams II, senior, said.
The team works well together and cares for each other.
“Volleyball teaches you how to trust your teammates at the highest level. While this is true to extent of all sports, I believe that volleyball is the ultimate team sport,” Staple said.
“Our team is like a family, were always there for each other no matter what happens,” Williams said.
“Whenever I feel down the team is always there for me, they’re always looking out for me and working to help me improve,” McCue said.
Their current record is 4-7 , although their record may not show the effort that they put into their games.
“I’ve been working hard at improving my own skill in order to benifit the team, next year look to see alot of improvement in our team,” McCue said.
