The annual Plainfield Band Craft Fair is this weekend. The fair will run on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission for those 18 and older is $5, while under 18 are free. Students and their families have been enjoying the festivities of the band craft fair for nearly 30 years.
“We plan on hosting the Plainfield Band Craft Show for many years to come as it has become a staple of the community,” Chris Vanderwall, band director, said.
For many, The fair can be a fun way to spend time with family and buy some Christmas gifts.
“I had fun going and spending time with my daughter. We love to Christmas shop together, and we had so much fun last year. We made a whole morning out of it, then came home and watched holiday movies and wrapped the presents we bought,” Leslie Ramos, sign language teacher, said.
Even students not directly involved in the band enjoy volunteering, as it is a fun way to get involved and spread school spirit.
“I’m not in the band, but I love hanging out with my friends, and I volunteer for all band events,” Riley Brooks, junior, said.
The craft fair is a great way for the community to come together and have a good time.
“Everybody wants to volunteer and help out. It is one of the biggest events, and people love supporting the small businesses,” Spencer Kazak, junior, said.
Members of the band appreciate the memories that are made during all the hours of volunteering.
“My favorite memory about the event was when we got to set up the gym and the field house after school and help the vendors carry their stuff inside,” Jacob Matulis, senior, said.
Part of the reason people love it so much is the unity and togetherness of running such a big event.
“Getting to see and talk to band members and families from all four high schools helps everyone realize that we all have far more similarities than differences, and while we may all do band a little differently, we all love it the same,” Vanderwall said.
