Students can immerse themselves into the world of skin and hair care on Wednesdays in room K436 when they join the new ‘B.RUSH’ (Beauty Researched, Understanding Science Holistically) club. Students will get the chance to dive into the science aspect of the beauty industry through labs, and hear from experts who work in the field.
There is a lot that goes into the world of beauty and many students do not realize what it takes to make their everyday products.
“I’ve always been a science-first person. I always look for proof that a certain method or item is the best. I discovered how much science can go into the beauty industry and how cosmetics interact with skin to achieve desired effects,” Garfield Wu, president said.
In high school and life in general a common issue people deal with is skin. Everybody wants to have perfect skin, but everyone’s skin is different and needs different things. It is necessary to learn what will work and what will not.
“In high school and college, I really struggled with acne. I wanted so badly to find something that would help. Through trial and error, I eventually found a routine that worked for me. Through that process, I became obsessed with learning what was actually in the products I was using,” Alexandra Smith, faculty sponsor, said.
There is a lot that goes into the world of beauty is, but this club was created to explore more than the surface of the word beauty.
“This club is special because it fosters creativity, growth, and meaningful conversations. It’s a welcoming space for everyone,” Smith said.
“Science is universal; science makes beauty all inclusive; science makes me love beauty,” Wu said.
Many students were excited at the chance to join a club that they can really relate to.
“Knowing that there was a beauty club at the school and the opportunity to join my first club in my first high school year was really exciting,” Arianna Aguirre, freshman, said.
Advertising the club is important to many of the students as they want to bring as many people in as they can.
“Using word of mouth and social media is gonna play a big role in really advertising to everyone,” Presley Stanich, officer, said.
Many students are already sharing their excitement about upcoming events in the club.
“I am so excited to participate in the labs and improve my skin and hair care,” Sophie Salkas, junior, said.
