Tucked next to Dairy Queen, just a 20 minute walk away from the school, Smiley’s Gyro & Beef is easy to miss, but it is a gem. The menu had a large variety of food to choose from: tacos, wings, sandwiches, and much more to suit any cravings. I decided to get the super taco, which includes a large soft and thick shell stuffed to the brim with the choice of chicken or steak, topped with cheese, lettuce, and a few large slices of tomato. I chose chicken on my taco and I decided to also get a chicken tamale. On the side of the dish, they offer two different spicy salsas. They had a green sauce which was more on the mild side and a red sauce that has a kick to it. The chicken taco was remarkable. It was grilled and seasoned to perfection with a small kick of spice with a hint of garlic, chilli, and plenty of salt and pepper. The tomatoes, cheese, and lettuce were fresh and added more taste. The taco also paired well with both the green and the red salsa. The chicken tamale was adequate, but I felt the flavor was mediocre. There wasn’t as much flavor as the taco, and it tasted bland. As well, the tamale was too small, not filling, and dry. Other than that, the service was phenomenal. They were very polite and patient while I decided what I wanted to order. The pricing is fair and not expensive; my total came out to be $9.23. Even better, before I paid they told me about their special on Mondays only. Every Monday they offer a chance to win $3 off, it’s called Movie Monday. The worker shows an image of a scene from a movie and after guessing correctly, my total ended at $6.23. They showed me a scene with Keanu Reeves in a president Carter mask from the movie Point Break. With the great services and outstanding food, Smileys is the place to go. I rate my overall experience and the taste of the food a 4.5/5 stars.
